The horrific situation in Ukraine understandably has the world on edge.<\/p>

While we\u2019re all shocked and saddened to see images on our televisions of devastation, destruction and death, what this footage doesn\u2019t demonstrate is the difficulties accessing essential services – such as healthcare \u2013 has become increasingly challenging and in some cases almost impossible for those in the conflict zone and those fleeing the country.<\/p>

Speaking from the western city of Lviv in Ukraine, World Health Organisation (WHO) spokesperson Tarik Jarasevic said:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

\u201cThe WHO has been unable to reach a number of cities where more and more people have no access to medicines or care.\u201d<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Sadly, with up to 5 million refugees expected to flee the conflict zone the situation is worsening.<\/p>

It has fallen on volunteers and everyday people to keep vital services and infrastructures running.<\/p>

Including the GPNow team in Romania who are conducting daily 500km round-trips to the border to provide help, support and a safe place to stay on their uncertain journeys.<\/p>

Working in collaboration with the Vasco de Gama Movement, a Network\u00a0for Young and Future Family Doctors of the\u00a0European Regional Branch of the World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA Europe) we are privileged to launch of the Ukrainian CrisisCare Telehealth Service<\/a> which went live with a pilot in Romania this week.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The service provides FREE access to volunteer medical professionals via the GPNow telehealth platform for anyone in need of assistance.<\/strong><\/p>

If you\u2019re a medical professional, now is the time to volunteer your skills to help those suffering during this terrible time. We\u2019re also seeking volunteers to fill important supporting roles, such as Ukrainian speaking translators, project managers and digital marketing professionals \u201cProgram Champions\u201d to help us raise awareness about the service.<\/p>

And if you don\u2019t have those hands-on skills that are so desperately needed to support an initiative of this magnitude \u2013 you can still help by contributing to help fund the Ukrainian CrisisCare Telehealth service, to fill the critical shortage and ensure the most vulnerable can access virtual medical care.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
